The Alamo EDC: Promoting Successful Commercial Endeavors in the City

At the Alamo EDC, we focus on the commercial and economic success of the businesses in our city. We are always looking to help new entrepreneurs with their commercial endeavors through various incentives that have each worked in the past. First, we’d like to highlight a few of the businesses that have prospered in Alamo thanks to our help. Check them out below and we’re sure that you’ll want to join in on their success!

New Generation Child Care Center

Our growing community has many locally-owned businesses that feature a wide range of services. One of Alamo’s most trusted childcare providers is New Generation Child Care Center. This daycare has been operating for 12 years and has a partnership with the PSJA School System.

Owner and director Melinda Lerma used the Revolving Loan Program from the Alamo EDC to help with the initial property purchase. The daycare helps the community with after-school bus transportation and is part of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which provides reimbursements for nutritious snacks and meals to eligible children.

The Original Willie’s Bar-B-Q

Founded by Willie Gonzalez, this Alamo staple has been serving famous barbecue since 1992. Willie’s has seen their reputation grow from a local eatery to Texas-sized fame after being recognized as one of Texas Monthly‘s Top 50 Barbecue Restaurants in the state.

As the Original Willie’s Bar-B-Q’s popularity grew, so did the need for a larger parking lot and expansion for the dining area, which the Alamo EDC was able to help with thanks to a loan from our Revolving Loan Program. Stop by and enjoy one of Willie’s daily specials!

iKids Academy

Beginning with only a dream and business plan, iKids Academy has become an early learning and child development center that employs seven full-time staff members that care for 46 children. Founded by Kimberly Hess in 2012, iKids Academy was also a recipient of the Revolving Loan Program from the Alamo EDC.

Hess used her loan to remodel a warehouse into a five-classroom building complete with four boys and four girls restrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, a utility room, and an 850 square foot fenced outdoor play area.
