UTRGV’s Small Business Development Center

UTRGV’s Small Business Development Center provides business training with management and technical assistance seminars to strengthen business performance and sustainability. Ranging from pre-business planning to marketing, bookkeeping, accounting and management, these seminars are designed for new and existing small business owners and managers to acquire information that they may need to make their company’s ventures successful.

These seminars are conducted by professional advisors who evaluate existing business operations and startup business plans. Small businesses can work closely with advisors to develop tailored business plans to gain insight for commercial success.

Partnering with the Alamo EDC

The Alamo EDC understands that having an assortment of programs and incentives are necessary for commercial success. That’s why we partner with PeopleFund and UTRGV’s SBDC for several seminars throughout the year. In addition to available programs and seminars, the EDC also has incentives for your business expansion or relocation efforts.

Accessible Programs

The Alamo EDC encourages and supports comprehensive approaches that emphasize the city’s local initiatives, private sector opportunities and self-sufficiency. Some of the accessible programs we offer include:

  • Grants to new and existing businesses based on available resources only for offsite improvements where the resulting asset falls within public domain, such as, but not limited to: water distribution, sewage collection, drainage, public thoroughfares, medians, street lighting, solid waste collection, signage, etc.
  • The USDA-Rural Development: Intermediary Relending Program (IRP) is another resource for rural communities. EDCs can borrow money from the USDA at 1% for a maximum term of 30 years and acts as intermediary-relending money to ultimate recipients.
  • The USDA-Rural Development: Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) helps EDCs with rural projects that finance and facilitate the development of small and emerging rural businesses and helps fund distance learning networks and employment related adult education programs.
  • The Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone provides tax increment financing for projects within identified areas.
