Whalen Road Reconstruction Project Underway to Improve Mobility

A groundbreaking ceremony for Whalen Road in early September signified a strong partnership and collaboration between the City of Donna, Hidalgo Precinct 1 and the

City of Alamo. Whalen Road is the municipal boundary of both Alamo and Donna.

Representatives from Alamo and Donna, along with neighboring constituents, joined Hidalgo County Pct. 1 Commissioner David L. Fuentes and his staff in celebratingthe start of the collaborative project that will soon pave a new way for the community.

“The collaboration and partnership established with the cities is something that’s very important to me,” said Fuentes. “It’s a great way for everyone to work together towards a common goal.”

Fuentes has committed to keeping costs down by utilizing Precinct 1 labor and equipment. By keeping the project in-house, Fuentes and his staff are helping save taxpayers money while improving the quality of life for residents in the area.

The reconstruction project covers Frontage Interstate 2 to Business 83 and will encompass approximately a little over half a mile of roadway. Construction is slated to take between 30 and 90 days for completion.

Alamo and Donna will each share the cost of the materials to be used for the street improvement.

“The half-mile road will provide a necessary alternative of travel and commuting, and will improve the quality of life surrounding homeowners and businesses,” Fuentes concluded.
